Five point AKC major at 6 mos...
...his first shows!!!

When my friends at Coastal Kennels emailed a photo of this baby boy to me to share their excitement over him, I could not stop thinking about him for a long time.  It was very apparent to all of us that this is a special puppy...  Tammy and I spoke about him for quite some time, we reached an agreement, and I finally was able to make my plane reservations to go pick him up and fly him home.  Thus was he named Coastal Wyndsong's Continental Cruiser -- a traveler from one side of the continent to the other.

Cruiser was an absolute doll for the entire, exhausting trip, which included being stuck in the Raleigh Durham airport for hours, then an unplanned overnight in Seattle.  His tail never stopped wagging, and hasn't to this day -- in fact, I often call him my Mr. Wiggledy-Waggedy.  He has a super-sweet, loving disposition and must investigate absolutely everything.  His head is incredibly lean with a wonderfully correct dark, medium almond shaped eye, and beautiful ears.  I love his beautiful, arched neck, correct angulation and outgoing, happy attitude!  Rather than falling apart as he matures, he is coming together better and better all the time.

Cruiser's sire is the specialty winning BISS Ch. Jade Mist Coastal Cruiser "Chevy" who finished his AKC title in four shows.   As a "young man," Tammy Alden and her mom, Pauline Brolin, sent Chevy off with Julie Desy, expecting him to be gone for several months.  He was home in less than a week -- a new champion!  Chevy recently stood with Gary Whitmore where he sired a number of litters and qualified for the 2006 Eukanuba National.

Cruiser's dam is Wistwin Rosy Red, a Town Cryer granddaughter, and the dam of two of my other Coastal boys (one Am/Can champion, and the other Am/Can pointed).  This was a repeat breeding that resulted in the spectacular Coastal's Beach Bunny the first time around (you can see her on the Coastal website).  Bunny placed in a competitive class at the 2003 National and has accumulated quite a following since.

We are very excited about this young man, and looking forward to an exciting show and performance career with him.  Snuggling on the couch with him isn't bad either!

I had hoped to take Cruiser to the 2005,  2006 & 2007 Nationals, but his Uncle Keeper chewed his butt hair off (in just a minute!) in time each year... primarily on the judge's side, naturally.  In addition, Cruiser specialized in being out of coat during our short show season, so finishing him was a challenge.

Coat hasn't seemed to be a limitation for Cruiser with some judges, however.  He's won his first major and many of his singles dead out of coat, virtually with pink skin showing through!  Go figure...

However, now that his coat is in unchewed condition, he's been racking up the honors quickly.  Open Sable at the 2008 National, owner handled, and just a tiny, three point major to go!  Thank you, Gary Whitmore, for presenting him so beautifully as he searches for the last major.
